DSIP Spray contains DSIP (emideltide), a nonapeptide with the sequence Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu, originally isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood and characterized in 1977. Synthetic material is identical in sequence to the native peptide.

Neither a precursor gene nor a specific receptor for DSIP has been identified. DSIP-like immunoreactivity is reported in hypothalamic, pituitary and peripheral tissues, and published studies describe modulatory interactions with several neurotransmitter systems.

DSIP Spray is supplied as a pre-dissolved aqueous solution of DSIP in a 15 mL metered dispensing container, a format intended to simplify aliquoting and laboratory handling without a separate dissolution step. Keep the container sealed and refrigerated, protected from light, and avoid freezing; identity and purity of the dissolved material should be confirmed analytically before use.
