Melanotan II Spray contains Melanotan II (MT-II), a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide lactam analog of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-NH2, designed in 1989 from molecular-dynamics models of α-MSH(4–10).

Melanotan II is a non-selective agonist at melanocortin receptors MC1R, MC3R, MC4R and MC5R, class A G-protein-coupled receptors that signal through Gs and cyclic AMP. It shows little activity at MC2R, the ACTH receptor, and is widely used as a reference agonist in melanocortin-receptor pharmacology.

Melanotan II Spray is supplied as a pre-dissolved aqueous solution of Melanotan II in a 15 mL metered dispensing container, a format intended to simplify aliquoting and laboratory handling without a separate dissolution step. Keep the container sealed and refrigerated, protected from light, and avoid freezing; identity and purity of the dissolved material should be confirmed analytically before use.
