Semax Spray contains Semax, a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) composed of the ACTH(4–7) fragment extended at the C-terminus with Pro-Gly-Pro, a modification intended to slow peptidase degradation.

Semax binds specific sites on rat basal forebrain plasma membranes and is reported to increase BDNF protein levels and the expression of neurotrophin and TrkB genes in rodent brain tissue. It also inhibits enkephalin-degrading peptidases in serum.

Semax Spray is supplied as a pre-dissolved aqueous solution of Semax in a 15 mL metered dispensing container, a format intended to simplify aliquoting and laboratory handling without a separate dissolution step. Keep the container sealed and refrigerated, protected from light, and avoid freezing; identity and purity of the dissolved material should be confirmed analytically before use.
